    Hey Padma,
I read your article on marriage and feminist. I loved every word in it. Great job. I have been bought up in a relatively feminist society in India but settled abroad like you. Somethings you mentioned I literally follow. I have kept my maiden name, don’t wear a mangalsutra and also use Ms (for official purposes) which makes me now think I am not alone in the world to do so. Thanks for putting my thoughts into words.
Keep writing and all the best.
    Regards,
    Juie.

    Hai Padma,
Good to see women like you trying to make changes in the world by ‘doing’, rather than just ‘saying’. Also such blogs are good platform for many to voice their angst and also find acknowledgement for being assertive, that which we do not receive in the society. Several times, before reading some feminist blog, I was thinking I was weird to have differing views related to culture and tradition. When I voiced it, the others said I was building a mountain out of a molehill. Some advised me to stay happy and not fret about it. Wish they had said the same thing to an environmentalist, a scientist, an explorer or to their sons, who wanted to improve their career through questioning.

Btb, I read the topic on US life, and what exactly it is to live there. I have posted my query there. If you could shed some light on the same, I think it will be very beneficial for many. Thanks and All the very best to you.

      Chintu,
Never think you are alone in having such thoughts ๐Ÿ™‚ Every single woman is actually a feminist. Not many come forward to say so, because the society somehow looks at them as if they are crazy. I think feminist should be renamed as bold-woman. This way, everyone can come forward to say they are bold!
I know what you mean..many advise that there is no use in asking for equal rights, as it will never change. And their solution to life usually is, bend down, compromise on things you hate, and then..life will be happy. Well, life will be happy for whom? For the person we are bending down for or for us?

Yes, marriage is based on compromise, but it is also based on understanding. We can’t compromise all the times. I mean compromise means, we are giving up a little of our own happiness to make the other person happy. When the action is mutual, then their can be happiness. But when compromise becomes life, then their can never be happiness, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Very true. Sometimes, the elderly (especially women) douse the fervour of such ‘bold women’ as they had compromised and fell victim to it, but ultimately gained the title ‘martyr or homely women, or good daughter-in-law’. They want the others to earn the title, and ask them to wait till they turn 60, with great patience. Their husbands by that time, climb up the career ladder and find the wife a little backdated.
The current generation women do not want to compromise on their career or knowledge, which is leading to this kind of movement. Well, lets thrash it out before it becomes too late!!

    Hi Padhma,
I think I stumbled onto your blog from FB. You write well. I read your post “What’s your excuse for staying abroad?”. That was interesting as well couple of other ones in Tamil and English. I have not read them all but I will in the coming days. I have added your blog to my favourite blogs.

Keep the words coming… Happy writing.
